  2. Ive got a gated community lake near me that is full of them. If I said what I estimate some of their weights to be, you would say I was full of shit.

Any helpful hints for those of us that want to poke one?

  3. Wish I could help. I have caught two total. One in front of the tpc sawgrass in Jacksonville (got some funny looks from the golfers there) and one on the Columbia. The Columbia fish I called General Sherman and while I didn't check with a scale, I figure the general weighed about 50 lbs. Just a silly, fat, monster of a fish. I would totally believe your estimates...grass carp get huge. They don't fight for shit though.

Caught mine on a mohair leech and San Juan worm.

  4. Jay i will honestly say, If the 2 I caught are around 15lbs. then some that I saw were pushing 35. and the ponds I was fishing were not very big, I am sure they get HUGE!

John, No they dont fight for shit, about 3 good runs and then they are in, But I wanted to chalk up more fish for my fly fishing catches, I hope soon to grab me a common carp!

Southern brownliner here. And by brownline, I mean concrete, channelized bayou, complete with shopping carts, discarded sofas and plastic bags. But full of grassies, some commons and buffalo. You guys ever get the opportunity to fish to the grassies with dry flies? Sometimes they will come up and kind of "gum" the fly, which can drive you crazy trying to wait for them to actually eat. Other times they pound it when it's skated by their nose. They are crazy fish.
